If you are seeking to become a Florida Licensed Healthcare Risk Manager you should first determine if you are eligible by contacting the Florida Agency for Healthcare Administration  (AHCA) at:(850) 412-4549 or click here to visit their website. 

There are 8 different pathways by which one may qualify for licensure as a Health Care Risk Manager.  These general requirements are found in Section 4 (Qualifications for Licensure) of the “Risk Manager Licensure Application” and outlined in Rule 59A-10.033(2)(a)-(j), Florida Administrative Code (with further explanation provided in Rule 59A-10.034 – 10.037) found on the AHCA website

Course Outline:

  • 40 hours of instruction related to general risk management administration and departmental organization and management.
  • 32 hours of instruction related to applicable federal, state and local health and safety laws and rules, community interrelationships, and accident prevention.
  • 40 hours related to applicable standards of healthcare risk management, including the principles  of malpractice insurance, the conduct of malpractice litigation, and the settlement of malpractice claims.
  • 8 hours related to additional general healthcare risk management issues.

Les Jebson currently serves as an Administrator and Lecturer with The SIU School of Medicine in Illinois.

He also serves as Program Director and Founder of the University of Florida Professional Development Program's Healthcare Certificate Series.

An adjunct faculty member at The University of Florida and University of Missouri Graduate Programs in Health Services Management, he is passionate about high quality, niche learning systems. His healthcare professional history includes serving as the Executive Director for the UF Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine Institute [100,000+ annual pt visits], Top 15 NIH Funding; the Chief Operating Officer and architect in the establishment of a new 40+ provider hospital employed multispecialty physician group in metropolitan Kansas City, and Practice Manager for over 20 outpatient clinics [300,000+ annual pt visits] for the University of Missouri Health System.
